Position Summary:

The BSN Clinical and Skills Lab Coordinator facilitates partnerships with healthcare organizations and community agencies to develop clinical site opportunities to support the education of students in the Kramer School of Nursing Pre-licensure Undergraduate Program. The Coordinator is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and maintaining clinical placement opportunities for students in support of established curriculum, and compliance requirements. The Coordinator serves as the primary touchstone for students, faculty, and external entities throughout the placement acquisition and assignment process.

Additionally, the Coordinator will manage the daily operations of the Skills Lab, ensuring that nursing students have access to high-quality, hands-on training experiences by maintaining equipment and supplies, and providing support to students and faculty.

The Clinical and Skills Lab Coordinator reports to the KSN Operations Manager and works closely with the Chair of the BSN program, and with other staff and faculty within the Kramer School of Nursing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in one of the following areas: high volume/high impact scheduling/coordination environment, coordinating clinical placement, health care management, health care delivery as a licensed nurse, nursing education, lab skill support, and/or administrative coordination is required.
  • Unencumbered RN or LPN license in Oklahoma.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.

Job Duties:

Demonstrate an attitude and behaviors that reflect the mission and values of the university and the Kramer School of Nursing.

  • Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with clinical sites and preceptors:
    • Identify new clinical site/affiliation agreements designed to support high-quality student learning experiences.
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clinical sites and agencies.
    • Maintains records of clinical contracts and updates records as necessary.
    • Negotiates clinical placement with NESA group.
  • Coordinate administrative activities associated with clinical placement of students:
    • Maintain required records and files as defined by the NESA group.
    • Primary administrator of the clinical placement platform for faculty and students.
    • Works closely with BSN Chair and/or BSN Coordinator to determine faculty and adjunct faculty assignments to clinical groups.
    • Maintains records of student placement in clinical facilities.
    • Maintains records of student and faculty absences from assigned clinical days.
    • Works closely with BSN Chair and/or BSN Coordinator or to monitor drug and background screening of all BSN students as required by facility partners.
    • Works closely with the Director of the Meinders Simulation Center and/or Simulation Technology Specialist to schedule simulations for students during their clinical rotations.
  • Serve as the primary staff contact for BSN students throughout the clinical placement process:
    • Advise students of clinical assignment, clinical faculty, preceptor, and oversight faculty information.
    • Serve as the liaison between students and clinical sites; communicates all site-specific requirements to students.
    • Troubleshoots placement and scheduling issues as they arise.
    • Works with BSN Chair and/or BSN Coordinator to arrange make-up clinical days.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Skills Lab:
    • Ensure lab cleanliness and organization.
    • Follow and enforce policies and procedures for lab use and safety. Assist in the development and implementation of lab policies and procedures.
    • Assure that supplies and equipment are adequate and in working order to meet the needs of students practicing skills.
    • Maintain an inventory of lab equipment and supplies. o Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of lab equipment.
    • Coordinate the procurement of new equipment and supplies as needed.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to establish a rapport with members of the healthcare/medical community; strength in developing and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Ability to quickly develop an in-depth understanding of the BSN program to accurately reflect and promote the programs to students, preceptors, university constituents, and agencies.
  • Proficiency in using simulation equipment and educational technology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient computer skills including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to become adept in new university software packages and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare terminology and hospital/clinic/practice systems.
  • Ability to reach out to appropriate sources to get the resources or find information needed to be successful.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and competence with use of health care devices and equipment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach. 
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds. 
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other business machines efficiently. 
  • May use computer keyboard at least seven hours a day. 
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens. 
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.

  • Work is primarily indoors but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus. 
  • Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
  • Some off-campus, state and regional travel may be required. 
  • Attendance at some evening and weekend events may be required. 
  • Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines.
