Position Summary:

The Director of the Inasmuch Center for Public Service at OCU Law provides OCU Law students with enrichment opportunities that facilitate a potential career in public service. These opportunities include programming at the school, such as special speakers; externship pathways in public service; and a potential summer experiential learning opportunity in Washington, DC; among other potential programming opportunities. By providing additional programming in this space, OCU Law builds upon its existing reputation for producing public servants in the government and nonprofit sectors, appealing to potential students and positioning graduates for success. The Director reports to the Associate Dean and works closely with the Dean and other faculty and staff to support programming and initiatives.

This is a grant-funded position, and continuation is contingent upon ongoing funding availability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in public service, legal education, government, or nonprofit leadership is required.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement public service-focused externship opportunities for OCU Law students with government agencies, nonprofits, and judicial offices.
  • Design and execute regular public service programming at the law school, including panel discussions, speaker series, and networking events.
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of a summer program in Washington, D.C., to provide students with experiential learning in public service.
  • Build and maintain relationships with public service organizations to enhance student opportunities. • Advise and mentor students interested in pursuing public service careers. 
  • Collaborate with faculty, career services, and external partners to integrate public service initiatives into the broader law school experience.
  • Secure funding or partnerships to support programming and student opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required

  • Demonstrated experience in program development, student mentorship, and relationship building with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to fostering public service values in legal education.

Preferred:

  • Experience developing externships, internships, or fellowship programs in a legal or academic setting.
  • Prior work or public service experience in federal/state/local government.
  • Familiarity with funding and grant opportunities for public service initiatives.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
  • Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday.
  • Attendance at evening and weekend events is occasionally required.
  • Off-campus, state and regional travel may occasionally be required.
  • Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines.
