Position Summary:

The School of Theatre at Oklahoma City University invites culturally and academically diverse applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Production Management position beginning August 2025. The successful candidate will join our professional artistic community with teaching and mentoring duties in production management, stage management, or other areas within the candidate’s expertise. Responsibilities include management and coordination of productions in the School of Theatre, Bass School of Music, and selected special events. The BFA Design & Production program at OCU prepares students for sustainable, professional careers in theatre and the entertainment industry. We combine a comprehensive curriculum offering conservatory-style training with a robust production season.

Teaching, Scholarship, and Service Requirements

  • Teach classes in Production Management, Stage Management, Professional Preparation, Theatrical Unions, and/or other courses in candidate’s area of expertise
  • Serve as Production Manager for School of Theatre, Bass School of Music, and other series/productions supported by the Design & Production program
  • Assist in mentoring stage management students in a busy production schedule of both on-campus and selected off-campus partner productions
  • Support student experiences with external professional partner organizations
  • Actively participate in School of Theatre recruitment and retention activities including travel to regional and/or national interview events
  • Service on school & university committees
  • Excellence in teaching is the primary factor in successful promotion and tenure decision making; maintaining a professional profile who can connect the profession to the classroom is also valued

Production Manager Duties:

  • Drafting and maintaining production calendars and managing production deadlines
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to schedule performance and rehearsal spaces
  • Coordinate development of overall season calendar
  • Organize and manage auditions for productions
  • Conducting design and production meetings
  • Attendance at and coordination of technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals
  • Supervise student assistant production managers
  • Coordinate special events in theatre spaces and rehearsal studios
  • Collaborate on planning for production budgets
  • Draft contracts for selected guest artists and designers

Required Qualifications

  • MFA in Production Management, Stage Management, or related field
  • University level teaching experience expected
  • Professional production management experience expected
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and relevant production software

Desired Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of university level teaching experience
  • 3 or more years of experience as a Production Manager with a professional theatre or entertainment/production company
  • AEA membership and knowledge of current union guidelines

School of Theatre

The School of Theatre offers comprehensive and diverse undergraduate focused programs with tracks in professional and applied theatre training. We offer a BFA in Acting, BFA in Design and Production, and a BA in Theatre Innovation & Entrepreneurship in a program that has gained a national reputation and currently has a steady population of around 200 majors. The School of Theatre is a part of the Margaret E. Petree College of Performing Arts which includes the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment and the Wanda L. Bass School of Music.

The Design and Production area supports the mainstage and studio productions for the School of Theatre and the Opera & Musical Theatre program within the Bass School of Music. The school has partnerships with two local professional theatre companies: Oklahoma Children’s Theatre and Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma. The Design and Production area has three additional partnerships: Oklahoma City Ballet, Music Theatre Wichita, and Factor 110. The School of Theatre prepares young theatre artists for a sustainable, professional life.
