Position Summary:

The Petree College of Arts & Sciences at Oklahoma City University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Clinical Faculty position in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), beginning in August 2025. This role is housed in the Division of Education & Professional Studies and includes teaching 24 credit hours of graduate courses in the CMHC program during the academic year.

These courses are fully developed, with embedded lectures, assignments, quizzes, and exams to ensure a consistent and engaging learning experience. This design significantly reduces preparation time and allows instructors to focus on what matters most-meaningful connection, experiential learning, and thoughtful feedback.

The CMHC program also integrates innovative online skills labs using recorded or AI-assisted client simulations. These dynamic, low-risk practice environments give students opportunities to develop core counseling skills while receiving formative, individualized feedback to enhance their growth.

Courses are delivered fully online and asynchronously, with the exception of Practicum and Internship, which include synchronous group supervision meetings. Summer teaching may be available.

This position is ideal for counselor educators who thrive in dynamic environments where innovation, independence, and collaboration shape both the learning experience and the future of the program.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Teach graduate-level courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, preparing students for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) eligibility. (Note: This is not a school counseling program.)
  • Provide clinical supervision, student mentorship, and academic advisement.
  • Support student engagement and retention through timely communication and relational, strengths-based interaction.
  • Model and promote professional dispositions, counseling skill development, reflective learning, and responsiveness to feedback.
  • Participate actively in departmental and university service.
  • Demonstrate interest in emerging trends in counselor education, including the ethical and pedagogically sound use of AI in teaching and supervision.
  • Maintain documentation that supports student development and professional readiness.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a program recognized by CACREP or the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Eligible for LPC licensure in Oklahoma at the time of hire.
  • Prior experience teaching at the graduate level.
  • Commitment to and/or experience with online course delivery.

Preferred Qualities:

  • Strong background in clinical supervision and counselor development.
  • Experience with or interest in integrating AI and educational technology in ways that enrich counselor training while preserving essential experiential learning.
  • Comfort with simulation-based skills labs and enthusiasm for using dynamic, reflective tools to support student learning.
  • Initiative and adaptability in evolving academic settings, with an interest in shaping the growth of an innovative, online counseling program.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse, mission-driven faculty team.
  • Passion for mentorship and professional formation, with a commitment to supporting student success and the counseling profession’s highest standards.
