Position Summary:

The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University invites applications from dynamic and collaborative educators for a nine-month, tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Trumpet, with responsibilities for teaching both undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will excel at teaching applied trumpet to both majors and non-majors, as well as coaching chamber music and teaching other courses as assigned. Experience in student recruitment and program development is required. The candidate will also be actively involved in the school’s assessment processes, recruitment efforts, and retention initiatives. Additional responsibilities include advising students, attending faculty meetings, and contributing to the university through service activities. Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service is required for promotion.

Performance opportunities for trumpet students include the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Wind Philharmonic, Jazz Band, Opera/Music Theater Pit Orchestra, and a robust chamber music program. Graduate students may participate in the graduate brass quintet, with all members receiving a graduate assistantship that includes a full-tuition scholarship and stipend. Additionally, a graduate assistantship in jazz trumpet is available. Bass School of Music alumni are leaders in their fields, holding prominent positions in symphony orchestras, military bands, and teaching roles at colleges and universities.

Qualifications:

A completed doctorate is preferred, and documented college teaching experience is required. Candidates with an MM and significant professional experience will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching graduate students. The ideal candidate will have a national reputation, demonstrated through significant experience presenting at state and national conferences, and maintain an active professional profile reflecting a successful career as a teacher, performer, and scholar. Documented success in performance, recruitment, and program development is strongly preferred. The ability to work collaboratively with faculty and contribute to a supportive, student-centered environment is essential.
