The Specialist is responsible for support to students regarding admissions and student services in the Wanda L. Bass School of Music and to serve as the music student success specialist.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in marketing, public relations, admissions, or music administration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Music or related Music field preferred.
- Student Services Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate an attitude and behavior that reflects the values and mission of the school and the university.
- Manage enrollment process for all first and second year undergraduate music majors.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of undergraduate music student information as well as maintaining student files.
- Act as liaison to Faculty Advisors and assist with enrollment process.
- Track and maintain music assembly attendance records.
- Student Success Responsibilities:
- Maintain Bass School of Music student data including grade progress for current undergraduate students as it relates to the retention of their scholarship awards, retention rates, and studio enrollment.
- Act as first year student coordinator and coordinate orientation activities for new students.
- Coordinate the music jury process and tabulate results (leveling) for undergraduate students and maintain the repertory cards for those students.
- Track and maintain music assembly attendance records.
- Admissions and Recruitment Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the offices of Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions in the successful coordination of recruiting efforts toward prospective students.
- Maintain a database of prospective undergraduate and graduate students over a collection of years and foster contact with those prospective students through letter campaigns, special events, and phone conversations.
- Act as a liaison for the School of Music, attending music conventions, School of Music ensemble tours and run-outs, making visits to Arts Magnet Schools, Schools of the Arts, and visiting high schools.
- Assist with the audition process, including on and off-campus auditions, as well as video and audio taped auditions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to acquire in depth knowledge of the Wanda L. Bass School of Music programs and admissions procedures.
- Excellent communication skills including oral, written and interpersonal to effectively and accurately represent the School of Music.
- Technical fluency including proficiency in MS Office Suite, FileMaker Pro, PageMaker, and Google.
- Experience with Hobsons and Desire to Learn (D2L) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a teamwork setting.
- Work outside of standard work hours is routine during peak periods.
- Ability to travel in and out of state.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks at hand amid frequent interruptions from phones, students, faculty, and the general public.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
- Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday.
- Attendance at evening and weekend events is occasionally required.
- Off-campus, state and regional travel may occasionally be required.
- Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines.
