Position Summary:

The Coordinator for Student Success and Academic Operations is responsible for coordinating student success initiatives and providing support services to students within the Petree College of Arts and Sciences (PCAS), with a focus on retention, advising, academic skills development, and overall student engagement. 

The Coordinator works closely with faculty, department chairs, and directors to create pathways to student success while also managing recruitment and application processing in collaboration with the Director of Academic Operations.

The Coordinator reports to the Director of Academic Operations and is a member of the PCAS administrative team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in academic advising, student affairs, or related area is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of related experience preferred.

Student Success Coordination: 

• Coordinates the early warning system for all students in the college identifying students at risk and implementing interventions to promote retention.

• Collaborates with the Registrar’s office to track student progress, particularly focusing on drop, fail, and withdrawal rates.

• Monitors and reports enrollment, retention, and graduation trends to deans, department chairs, and directors.

• Facilitates student engagement with academic support services such as the College Academic Skills enrollment, Learning Enhancement Center (LEC) tutoring, and faculty-student mediation.

• Collaborates with the Director of the Learning Enhancement Center and the Education department to promote and refine these services to meet student needs.

• Partners with department chairs, directors, and deans to create strategic pathways for student retention.

• Assist with the coordination and execution of orientation programs, workshops, and events designed to support student success and retention.

Advising and Degree Pathway Support: 

• Acts as the primary academic advisor for undecided students, University Studies students, and Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCP) students, guiding them in finding appropriate degree paths.

• Connects students with department chairs for academic and career advising.

• Collaborates with ADCP faculty to ensure course offerings meet the needs of both faculty and students, including the RN to BSN program.

• Works with the College’s scholarship committee to assign ADCP scholarships and provides catalog updates for the ADCP program as needed.

• Stay updated on changes in academic programs, degree requirements, and university policies to accurately advise students.

Recruitment and Admissions: 

• Assists in recruiting graduate and undergraduate students in partnership with chairs, directors, and the Director of Academic Operations.

• Participates in recruitment efforts such as career fairs, school visits, meeting with prospective students and families, and promoting scholarship opportunities.

• Supports the development of recruitment strategies and events for the College in collaboration with Admissions and academic leadership.

• Supports the Director of Academic Operations in evaluating and processing international graduate applications. Reviews transcripts, communicates admission decisions, and manages application records.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have computer literacy, familiarity with Microsoft Office (PC/MAC), Excel, email, and file sharing. Banner software knowledge preferred. Ability to acquire new software skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Skill in using tact and diplomacy in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in cultural competence and an ability to develop a successful rapport with international students and related constituencies.
  • Commitment to student-centered advising practices and student success initiatives.
  • Knowledge of higher education policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Proactive self-starter with ability to produce results.
  • Ability to work without supervision, prioritize essential tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and professional demeanor.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  1. Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
  2. Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  3. Attendance at evening and weekend events is required. 
  4. Off-campus, state and regional travel is required. 
  5. Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines.
