The Coordinator of Alumni Engagement provides support for the University’s Alumni Engagement programs. The coordinator works closely with the Director of Alumni Engagement to develop and cultivate alumni relations and engagement with the university via a strategic plan for events, programs, database management, communications, and fundraising initiatives and other duties as assigned.
The coordinator reports to the of Alumni Engagement and is a member of the University Advancement team.
- Some experience in marketing, communications, special events, or a relevant service-related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education is preferred, however, previous student employment and/or internship experience may be considered if target candidates are recent graduates. Areas of previous work or study may include communications, marketing, business, English, journalism, broadcasting, a liberal arts focus, or other fields.
- OCU experience (as an alumni, former student, or other relationship) preferred.

- Alumni Engagement
- Support the Director of Alumni Engagement in establishing strategies for engaging and increasing alumni participation (digital and in-person).
- In cooperation with the Alumni Advisory Board, coordinate special projects as assigned by the Director of Alumni Engagement.
- Develop and coordinate alumni relation programs for a diverse alumni population that fosters long-term relationships with the University.
- In cooperation with the Director of Alumni Engagement, coordinate and manage the Alumni Mentor Program for current students and alumni establishing creative and effective strategies for ongoing and sustainable participation in the program.
- In cooperation with the Director of Alumni Engagement, help coordinate stewardship of alumni visiting campus, for social media, thank you notes and recognition in the Focus magazine.
- In cooperation with the Director of Alumni Engagement, help coordinate and provide support for alumni events held virtually and on and off campus.
- Communications
- In cooperation with the Director of Alumni Engagement, maintain the Alumni section of the University website and the Alumni social networking sites to ensure that content is accurate, including the Alumni-owned Business Directory.
- Collaborate with internal and external constituencies to design and implement effective communication and marketing strategies that increase and sustain active alumni involvement in various programs, including working with university communications to ensure a strong and up-to-date web presence.
- Develop and solicit content for the monthly alumni newsletter, StarTalk. Prepare monthly newsletter for editing and approval before publication.
- Maintain regular correspondence from the alumni email account.
- Advancement Team Support
- Support the initiatives and programs of the Office of Advancement as assigned
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High degree of organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and perform under pressure.
- Ability to develop and produce error-free materials and mailings including excellent proofreading skills.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Skill in event planning. Planning can include coordinating logistics for events ranging from a handful of participants to several hundred alumni and other OCU community members.
- Ability to develop a rapport with constituents of diverse backgrounds.
- Technical fluency in common software programs, applications, Internet, and social media platforms and tools such as MS Office Suite and Instagram, Twitter, Facebook as well as the aptitude to acquire technical knowledge quickly.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others (including Advancement team) and accept direction from supervisors.
- Ability to manage a flexible work schedule within the 20 hours per week, with the expectation that key scheduled events—such as Homecoming—will take priority and may include occasional evening and weekend hours.
- OCU experience (as an alumni, former student, or other relationship) preferred.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, specifically Raiser’s Edge (preferred).
- Familiarity with web and/or graphic design preferred.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
- Standard office hours will occur within the 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. timeframe.
- Attendance at evening and weekend events may occur and scheduled with supervisor.
- Some travel may be required.
- Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines.
