The Company Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of all technical aspects of the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment rehearsals and shows under the direction of the Producer and Artistic Director. During performances, the Company Manager is responsible for the smooth and professional operation of a show. The Company Manager coordinates, trains, and supervises Production Assistant work-study students and all co-curricular production assignments in the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment.
The Company Manager reports to the Dean and Associate Dean and is a member of the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment staff.
- One to three years of experience as Company and Stage Manager or equivalent experience in entertainment industry.
- A suitable combination of experience and education may be substituted for minimum qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Dance performance experience is preferred.

- Serve as Company Manager:
- Manage faculty and staff participation during Star Dance Company (SDC) activities.
- Stage manage all Star Dance Company performances.
- Facilitate company auditions.
- Coordinate, organize, and maintain company callboard.
- Maintain and update Company Rules. Assist in enforcement of Company Rules.
- Maintain company dancer contracts.
- Screen music submissions by choreographers for platform, digital format, and bit-rate compliance with sound designer’s specifications and standards.
- Provide technical and administrative support throughout the production process:
- Technical Support Assist Producer and Artistic Director or their designee(s) in creation and implementation of the technical aspects of Ann Lacy School productions.
- Coordinate and conduct all technical rehearsals. (Entails creating technical and cue sheets for all productions.)
- Serve as the “go-ahead” person on company run-outs and tours to make ready all technical aspects in the venue in which the company will perform.
- May include lighting design if qualified.
- Assist with use of sound and technology in classrooms and dance studios.
- Administrative Purchase technical and production equipment for the Ann Lacy School as well as music inventory for the SDC.
- Develop and maintain a production notebook for each individual company production. (Notebook includes company roster, casting, technical requirements, rehearsal and performance schedules, contact information, contracts, prop lists, sound and lighting cues, etc.)
- Maintain collection of show rehearsal digital recordings. Check out copies to choreographers and ensure their prompt return.
- Provide oversight for and supervision of activities and personnel involved in developing and producing shows:
- Organize and supervise the tech crew and staff during show load-ins and strike/load-outs.
- Ensure professional behavior of the technical crew and staff throughout the production process.
- Call cues and maintain the integrity of all productions. Oversee safety protocols for students and staff involved in SDC productions, and provide safety instruction as required.
- Oversee organization, maintenance, and proper use of SDC technical production equipment and coordinate training on such equipment.
- Oversee organization, maintenance, and proper use of SDC equipment, sets, and props.
- Train students in the operation, programing, and maintenance of moving lights.
- Oversee and supervise work study in construction and maintenance of props for productions.
- Supervise and train students serving as backstage staff & crew for all SDC productions.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and well-organized workplace including office, production room, and performance areas whether on or off-campus.
- Coordinate reservation of theatre facilities with other performing arts schools at OCU.
- Coordinate and publish co-curricular arts management assignments for students in the Ann Lacy School.
- Provide support to the Arts Management and Production 1, 2, and 3 courses.
- Supervise technical aspects for the Student Choreography Show, the Community Dance Center Showcase, the Oklahoma City University Commencement stage management, and other productions as assigned
- Direction of daily work-study assignments, approve student time sheets, and perform annual work evaluations for student employees.
- Provide performance and rehearsal management for recruiting activities including summer camps.
- Participate in recruiting events in administrative and support capacities as needed.
- Monitor activities in the Dance and Entertainment building as scheduled which may cause standard work hours to be adjusted.
- Serve as liaison with the School of Theatre technical production faculty and staff for scheduling and using facilities and equipment under their control.
- Provide lighting design and technical production for the Student Choreography Show, if assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent stage management skills.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and creative problem solving skills.
- Vast knowledge of the technical aspects of production, such as lighting, sound, set design, Union rules, contracts, etc.
- Ability and experience programing moving light and static light boards.
- Experience with lighting design including moving lights preferred.
- Excellent relational skills. Must contribute to a sense of calm, especially in chaotic and high energy situations.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work long hours under stress while maintaining positive demeanor.
- Excellent oral communications skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel Spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to adapt to new and changing technology.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
- Clear, correct, and effective communication using the English language.
- Ability to drive vans and/or trucks for show productions; valid OK driver’s license.
- Ability to adjust and adapt to changes necessary for producing effective outcomes in challenging situations.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- The position is extremely physical. Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach. Must be able to move quickly and safely from various levels between backstage, stage, theater house and dressing room spaces.
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard, other business machines, and theatrical equipment.
- Near vision sufficient to read written communications, and computer display screens. Night vision sufficient for safely moving in low-light theatrical environments. (Must be able to see and function well in low-light conditions.)
- Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person, and by phone, and by theatrical headset systems.
- Balance and physicality to perform theatrical tasks on high ladders, catwalks, and grids.
- Must be willing and able to climb ladders and use “Genie Lifts”.
- Both physical and mental stamina are essential.
